By Public Transport

Take a Narok Line matatu from Nyamakima in Nairobi CBD early (approx 7am) to Narok which should cost approx. KES 400pp and arrive in around 3 hours, there is no set time table, vehicles just depart as they fill up so you may have to wait. Once in Narok walk 5mins or catch a boda-boda (motorbike taxi) to the stage for Maasai Mara vehicles (opposite Naivas supermarket), anyone you ask will direct you. Once there, book in a shared taxi to Sekenani, it should cost approx. KES 700pp (you may need to pay extra for large bags). Bear in mind the shared taxis can fit up to 8 people inside a vehicle designed for 4 so for added comfort you may prefer to pay for more than one space! The vehicles have very limited availability after around 4-5pm so it’s best to arrive early. Expect it to take around 2-2.5 hours to get to Mara Explorers and do not take it all the way to Sekenani as we are 3.8km before. There are several drivers who know our camp and will drop you to our gate including Pastor George, Sigei, Jack, Mungai and Wahinya, you can ask around for them at the stage to assist you.

On your way back you will need to wait at the main road outside camp around 7-10am in the morning to get a return vehicle going to Narok. There is no specific time table so you just have to wait for a passing vehicle with space.

Please note if using public transport, keep valuables and money on you at all times, some large bags and luggage may be packed on the roof or away from your seat or charged extra if you keep them with you. Using public transport is an adventure, it requires patience and does not always go 100% according to plan. Mara Explorers will not take any responsibility if you miss your matatu, it breaks down, there is a transport strike or for any other reason you are not able to complete your journey here via public transport.

We recommend pre-booking your accommodation and/or game drive vehicle in advance when planning to arrive here via public transport to guarantee availability at the time of your visit.
