HEALTH AND AGE RESTRICTIONS

You the client shall acknowledge an awareness of the proposed itinerary and shall confirm that he or she is medically fit, in good physical and mental health and is able to embark on the trip. Any client with a pre-existing medical condition or illness must declare the true nature of such a condition to us before the start of the trip, failure to declare may result in the cancellation of his/her booking. Every client above the age of 75 years is required to submit a doctors certificate of medical fitness prior to the start of the trip. For all camping safaris there is an age limit of 70 years. For all accommodated safaris, there is an age limit of 80 years. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Always contact your doctor or local travel clinic for the latest health immunisation advisories. Medical facilities are not always readily available in some of the remote areas we visit. All personal prescription medication should be carried with you, together with a copy of the prescription.

INSURANCE

Travel insurance covering personal accident, death, repatriation, emergency evacuation and medical expenses is strongly recommended for all travellers doing a safari and we recommend it be taken out at the time of booking your safari. This is due to the fact good medical facilities are not always available in some remote areas, air evacuation may be required in an emergency and many hospitals will insist on upfront payment or proof of insurance prior to admittance of a patient and doing any treatment. We also recommend your travel insurance covers cancellation, curtailment, personal liability, loss of luggage and personal effects.

Should you fail to obtain comprehensive travel insurance Mara Explorers indemnifies themselves fully from any harm, loss or damages that you may suffer as a result.

IMMUNISATION AND MEDICATION

African countries have varying immunisation and medication requirements and it is essential that you familiarise yourself with these. The client should consult their own doctor or local medical facility for the latest information regarding required vaccinations. It is the clients’ responsibility to make sure that they have all the vaccinations and medication including Malaria tablets required for their particular destinations. It is furthermore your responsibility to be familiar with all diseases, both real and potential, when travelling to and through Africa and to take the necessary precautions to avoid them.

PASSPORTS AND TRAVEL DOCUMENTATION

Each client is responsible for ensuring that their passports and any other travel documents are valid for the duration of the safari plus at least six months afterwards. It is your responsibility to ensure that all your travel documents are in order and up to date and immigration regulations such as visas and / or permits are satisfactorily obtained and in your possession for travel. It is advisable that you contact the consul or embassy of your destination country as well as countries passing through, in order to verify the requirements and ensure that you are adequately prepared. No refunds due to incomplete travel documentation will be given or entertained. Your passport must have sufficient blank visa pages available in accordance with the regulations of the various African countries. It is recommended that a minimum of 2 (two) blank pages per country that you will be visiting or passing through be available in your passport.

INCLUDED IN TRIP PRICE

Mara Explorers attempt to make every effort to ensure that clients are fully aware of what expenses are involved in each particular safari to avoid any unexpected costs arriving during the trip.

EXCLUDED IN TRIP PRICE

In all normal safari itineraries international airfares, visas, travel insurance, excess baggage charges, personal gift or snack food shopping, alcohol and soft drinks, optional activities, tips and any unspecified meals are not included. Money is needed for transfers, accommodation and meals before and after your safari dates unless we have specified on your particular safari they are included.

VIEWING ANIMALS

Please be advised that all wild animals are potentially dangerous. Please do not disembark from the vehicle in non-designated areas unless told to do so. When it comes to game viewing, please understand that there are no guarantees. It is a privilege to see an animal in its natural habitat and bear in mind that animals are continuously moving to fulfil their ecological needs so no particular sighting can ever be guaranteed.

AUTHORITY OF DRIVER/GUIDE

Our driver/guides adopt an authoritative position in relation to you as the client and for the peace of mind and safety of everyone involved with the safari, must be adhered to at all times during the trip. By booking the safari you agree to be bound by the decisions and leadership of the driver/guide at all times.

BEHAVIOUR

A booking is accepted on the strict understanding that the client undertakes to comply with the laws, customs, foreign exchange, drug and all other regulations of all countries visited on safari, as well as safety and security rules as outlined by us on the trip and those of the various properties you will visit throughout your safari. Do be aware that in the event that a client is found violating such rules or laws and regulations or otherwise prejudicing the safety or well being of the group or progress of the trip, we may terminate your trip with us without any liability on our part.

SAFARI VEHICLES

Mara Explorers uses a range of well maintained, safe and comfortable transfer and safari vehicles. Safari vehicles are converted for ideal game viewing and may have windows or roll up tarp sides, pop-up roof or removable roof hatches. We do not guarantee air conditioning in any of our vehicles.

Despite being continually maintained we cannot guarantee that your vehicle will not suffer an unforeseen breakdown whilst on safari which is out of our control. In the event of this happening we will endeavour to repair the problem or provide an alternative means of transport as soon as we possibly can.

CHANGES TO ITINERARIES

Mara Explorers have presented you with an itinerary but please keep in mind travel through Africa is intended to be fun, spontaneous and adventurous. Occasionally we may be forced to make changes on route due to poor road conditions, weather, game movements, vehicle breakdown or other circumstances out of our control. A flexible attitude is important. No responsibility is accepted for delays experienced as a result of any of the above-mentioned. Whilst every effort is made to adhere to the confirmed itineraries, we reserve the right to effect changes should this be deemed necessary. In the unlikely event of a vehicle breakdown that is beyond our control and immediate repair, we will arrange to have the spare part sent to its current location in the fastest possible time or arrange an alternative means of transport to allow you to continue with your journey as quickly as possible. We reserve the right to alter the itinerary accordingly in order to make up anytime lost due to any unforeseen circumstances.

In such cases, where an alteration to the trip itinerary is necessitated, this does not constitute grounds for a refund. In the event of there being an unscheduled extension to the booking caused by fight delays, bad weather, strike, vehicle breakdown or any other cause that is beyond our control, it is understood that expenses relating to such unscheduled extensions (e.g. hotel accommodation and food) will be for your account and Mara Explorers will not be liable.

BOOKING

Bookings shall be confirmed immediately upon receipt of your deposit. Any such deposit is strictly non- refundable. The deposit constitutes part of the booking conditions and we reserve the right to cancel any booking in the event of the deposit or any part thereof not being received by the due time specified. Once a booking has been confirmed, we guarantee not to surcharge on the price of the safari. However such guarantee does not cover increases in park entry fees by the relevant authorities which we have no control over. Any increase in the booking price occasioned by the fluctuation in exchange rates between the date of quotation and the date of final payment shall be covered by the client.

AMENDMENTS

If you wish to make alterations to your safari/booking at any time after it has been confirmed by us you will incur a US$ 50 administration fee. You will also be liable for any other costs incurred from our suppliers for the adjustments.

CANCELLATIONS

By the client: If you wish to cancel your booking you must notify us in writing via email in the first instance for it to be recognised.

If you cancel a safari/booking at any time after your booking as been confirmed by us you will lose your non-refundable deposit. We advise you to take out an insurance policy at the time of booking which will cover cancellation fees.

When we confirm a safari package with you the price is based on the specified number of travellers at the time. In the event of a change in traveller numbers the price per person and overall balance is subject to change.

Any cancellations, last minute changes or shortening of duration less than 30 days prior to trip commencement will still be liable for full payment and will not result in any reduction of costs. If you leave a tour for any reason, join it late or wish to reduce its length after it has commenced we are not obliged to make any refunds for unused services.

By The Company: In extreme circumstances we may cancel a safari at any time prior to departure, due to terrorism, natural disasters, political instability or in the event of any other external activity which causes it to be not viable for us to operate the planned itinerary.

If we cancel your tour, you can either choose another departure date or alternatively receive a refund of your deposit. In circumstances where the cancellation is due to external events outside our reasonable control, refunds will be less any unrecoverable costs we have incurred. We are not responsible for any incidental expenses that you may have incurred as a result of your booking including but not limited to visas, vaccinations, travel insurance excess or non-refundable flights.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES

Optional activities are not included in the tour price and are not part of our contract.

You accept that any assistance given by your driver/guide in arranging optional activities does not render us liable for them in any way. The contract for the provision of that activity will be between you and the activity provider.
